OCTLIGHT is honored to have been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the Eurostars™ programme in cut off 7 with the project “BLINK”. Read the official press release from Eurostars here.

The BLINK project which is coordinated by OCTLIGHT is one of the 119 new research and development projects selected for funding by Eurostars – a programme sponsored by EUREKA member countries and the European Commission. Together with our partners Region Hovedstaden and Optolab from the Bern University of Applied Sciences the aim is to demonstrate OCT imaging with an innovative and affordable Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Engine that is capable of generating wide field 3D OCT images.

OCTLIGHT has been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the Horizon 2020 EU SME Instrument. Read the official press release here.

This is Phase 1 of the instrument, which grants the company €50,000 to be used for exploring and assessing the technical feasibility and commercial potential of a breakthrough innovation that a company wants to exploit and commercialize.

OCTLIGHT is one of seven Danish companies accepted in the first application round of 2017, joining the batch of 184 small- and medium-sized enterprises that was selected from a total of 2111 applicants.

Provided with about € 3 billion in funding over the period 2014-2020, the SME Instrument helps high-potential SMEs to develop groundbreaking innovative ideas for products, services or processes that are ready to face global market competition.

The aim of the Market Development Fund is to promote growth, employment and export, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises in areas where Denmark has particular strengths and potential. The Fund has three primary focus areas:

  • Market development through co-funding for private enterprises’ innovative solutions
  • Market development through innovative public procurement
  • Market development through industry partnerships

OCTLIGHT has been award a grant from Innovation Fund Denmark.

Innovation Fund Denmark invests in new knowledge and technology creating growth and employment in Denmark.

The aim of the project is to bring to market a product for retinal imaging.

Jakob Skov has been appointed Member of the Board of Directors. Jakob Skov has worked most of his professional career within the group that today spans from vacuum cleaners, to power cables, flexible pipes and optical companies. He has always worked internationally and primarily with M&A, strategy, turnarounds (business development in its broadest sense).

Jakob Skov comes from a position as CEO in NKT Photonics, a Danish Company with products encompassing pulsed lasers, such as supercontinuum sources, low noise fiber lasers, distributed temperature sensing systems and a wide range of specialty fibers for imaging, sensing and material processing.

Bent Benemann Bischoff has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors and will succeed Gustaf Iuel-Brockdorff who will remain in the Board of Directors as representative for the investor Syddansk Teknologisk Innovation.

Bent Bischoff has a strong network in the Danish investment scene and have been working with several Danish start-ups in the last couple of years. Bent Bischoff will work to strengthen the commercial development and investor relations.

Following the investment from Syddansk Teknologisk Innovation a professional Board of Directors have been established. This has been formed from the informal advisory board consisting of Bent Benemann Bischoff, Jacob Lundgren Philipsen, Andreas Tycho, Jes Broeng and Claus Jørgen Nielsen (DTU).

Gustaf Iuel-Brockdorff will be the new Chairman of The Board of Directors. Gustaf Iuel-Brockdorff is investment director at the innovation incubator SDTI. He has previous experience in sourcing of scientific equipment and patenting. He has previously worked with among others the startup Universal Robots.

Bent Bischoff will be a Board Member. Bent Bischoff has a background in equity financing in London and Denmark. Bent is an active investor in several start-up companies and have been active in CONNECT Denmark, a non-for-profit organisation working with danish growth companies.

Jacob Lundgren Philipsen will be a Board Member. Jacob Philipsen has more than 10 years of executive management experience from high-tech companies within optics, sensors and electronics. He has held CEO and senior management positions in the companies Flux A/S, Sonion A/S, NKT Integration A/S, and Teem Photonics S.A.
